Avoiding a ding dong in Vietnam

We are weaving our way through the traffic in Hanoi, Vietnam and it’s absolutely crazy. There must be more mopeds, bikes and scooters here per head of population than anywhere else on the planet! It’s worse than Amsterdam where you have to dodge pushbikes, trams and cars from every direction.

As we head through the traffic I am amazed at just how much stuff the Vietnamese can carry on their bikes. Whole hifi systems, fresh produce even a washing machine passes by the window of my taxi. Staggering!! The law says you have to wear a helmet, but many don’t. Then a mother and her 3 kids straddled over a very small scooter come dangerously close to the car. Not one is wearing head protection. How stupid is that?

Just like the traffic, the currency is crazy too. Vietnamese Dong. Changing just 100 sterling makes me a multi millionaire. At around 22,000 to the pound  all the prices exclude the three zeros. A beer costs  over  100,000! The saving grace is they take US Dollars, at just over 1.4 to the pound the maths is a little less taxing.
