Realising when you are better off

My recent trip to Hanoi also took in Thailand to see the new relatives and show them their lovely new  grand daughter. They run a confectionery business employing some 40 people. I learned a lot about the employment system for low skilled workers. With a minimum wage of 200 Baht, that’s around £4 per day compared to the UK which is over 10 times more. A main meal can cost 60 Baht for rice and some meat, so not much left for the family. Fortunately, my father in law provides all the accommodation for his workers.

Despite the obvious hardships they face, as I walked around the factory all I could see were smiling faces. Ok, it is tough in the UK right now, but I couldn’t help thinking we should be much more positive about our own situation.
